Explore the conditions for true agency in both student learning and teacher practice
Virtual Event • Free
Student agency is often associated with giving learners more choice—but is agency really just about choice? And what happens when we ask students to take ownership of their learning while teachers themselves have limited autonomy, voice, or decision-making power?
In this engaging conversation, we’ll take a closer look at what agency really means for both students and educators. We’ll explore the difference between choice and true ownership, what agency looks like in practice, and the conditions that allow both students and teachers to make meaningful decisions, take action, learn from feedback, and influence their own learning and work.
Through real-world examples and a candid panel conversation, we’ll examine the powerful connection between student agency and teacher agency—and consider what schools can do to move from compliance to greater ownership, engagement, and purpose.
Come explore why agency matters, what it actually looks like in classrooms and schools, and how we can create environments where both students and educators have the capacity and opportunity to shape their experiences.
This session is for teachers, school and district leaders, student leaders, and anyone who is ready to create school environments that value and encourage agency in student learning and teacher practice.
By attending, participants will:
Develop a clear understanding of agency, differentiating it from voice, choice, or engagement
Recognize what agency looks like in both student learning and teacher practice, and how the two connect
Explore strategies for creating the conditions for agency to thrive
Identify ways to balance agency with rigor, standards, and accountability
Consider the role of equity in learner agency for all students
