Learn More About KAITLab

KAITLab is redefining the future of math learning by blending the familiarity of pen and paper with cutting-edge technology. Our smartpen captures real-time screencasts of student work, giving teachers full visibility into every step of the problem-solving process.

In a world where digital innovation often feels disconnected from the physical classroom, KAIT is building a bridge between the two. We believe that technology should enhance, not replace, the fundamental cognitive benefits of handwriting. Our mission is to support every learner to excel in mathematics. Math is ruthlessly cumulative so a gap in the 4th grade often becomes a wall by the time a student gets to Algebra 1.

What sets KAITLab apart?

Often assessing multistep mathematical concepts and equations gets reduced to the limits of the technology being used; Clicks on a screen. KAIT keeps students anchored in traditional pen-and-paper problem solving. Our approach is distinct because we don’t just grade the final answer; our multimodal solution analyzes the process and learner motivation. By capturing handwriting data 75 times per second, our proprietary solution distinguishes between procedural and conceptual errors. This means we can tell if a student simply miscalculated or if they fundamentally misunderstood the underlying concept. This is a level of precision that digital-only platforms simply cannot match.

How does KAITLab support educators and center learners?

Our work supports educators by automating the time-consuming "detective work" of identifying students’ needs. Through diagnostic heat maps, teachers can instantly see which students are struggling with specific standards across the entire class. This shift allows for a truly student-centered experience. Content is tailored to each learner’s Zone of Proximal Development. Most solutions leave educators to decipher the data and create interventions on their own. KAIT takes that work off teachers, by delivering scaffolded training with personalized study paths that adapt to each student's pace and performance.

Bridging the Gap: How KAITLab is Redefining Classroom Success

s

A pilot study conducted from September 2025 to January 2026 yielded significant results:

  • Usage: Students used KAIT training twice a week for 15 minutes.

  • Comparison: Class A utilized KAIT alongside iReady, while other classrooms used iReady only.

  • Assessment: Progress was monitored through two administrations of the iReady assessment.

  • Outcome: The classroom integrating KAIT demonstrated significant growth compared to the control group.
